The game has a beautiful animation and many of the characters are really likable! Definitely, Joyfress was my favorite 😺 he is hillarious and so passionate of life that eventhough cooking is new for him, he gives it all to get to prepare the recipe. Besides a fun story and interesting characters, the puzzles have a good balance between being challenging and doable, and the possibility to interact with objects in more than one way makes you find all kind of uses for objects you never would have thought of. Definitely a game worth playing!! And... please tell me it will have a sequel!! 💜
Joyfess Ep1: Martin's Secret Recipe
A downloadable Joyfess game for Windows
Joyfess Tidesman, a fearless sailor from the Caribbeans, decides to take a break from his sea adventures by participating in a cooking contest, only to realize that the most exciting of his adventures is yet to come as he tries to fetch a recipe and gather its contents.
In this 2D point-and-click adventure game, you will control Joyfess Tidesman to help him gather the recipe's contents and get back to his ship in time, overcoming any surprises that might be thrown his way by those who don't want him to succeed.
The game features:
• Fully hand-drawn backgrounds and animations (yes, old school frame-by-frame animation!)
• Full voice acting (including protagonist's comments)
• Ten different locations
• Estimated four hours play time for experienced players (a bit more if you're new to the genre)
In order to download this Joyfess game you must purchase it at or above the minimum price of $14.95 USD. You will get access to the following files:

I just wanted to mention a detail: The cows on James' farm are so adorable! I worked on a farm for some years (shoveling cow dung and stuff like that), just remembered that time. I really like the animations (and the hearty "mooh"), well done!
And before I forget there is also a little bug I encountered: While I like the new William design, the guy seems to be a little bit... tiny now. And floating too. ;) I loaded the savegame from the previous version, could that be the problem?
edit: I noticed that it happens when I return to the bar from the farm, not when I load a savegame from the bar itself. There is also another thing I'm not sure if it's a bug: The two pirates don't always sit at the table when I enter the bar. Is that intended?
Glad to hear about the cows. I already forwarded that to our lead animator. ;)
Thank you for reporting the bug! We know exactly why that happened and it can literally be solved with a single line of code. We were optimizing frame size and needed to add a couple of code lines to correct for that change. And from your report we realize that we forgot to add--hopefully--a final code line. From the code I'm looking at now, this problem should happen in the following circumstance:
1. You are using a save file from a game that you have started *before* releasing the last update.
2. You are returning to the Bar from outside (i.e. it shouldn't happen when you have opened the file in the Bar, but will happen if you leave it and come back).
The bug is not expected to happen in a fresh game that you started after you have updated your game.
The updated version will be uploaded in less than an hour and I will let you know here.
The two pirates thing is not a bug. It is intended. They have a 25% chance of appearing to give some "life" to the place. Let me also share with you a secret that we are now working on adding a couple of background characters to the Town too for the same reason. They won't affect game play but will add more life to the scene.
Thanks again for reporting the bug! Please always do let us know. More often than not such bugs are very easy and quick to solve.
Ok, then I'll restart the game. Or I'll just wait for some weeks with my first "serious" playthrough.
That's a fantastic idea with the on-off background characters! A little bit of life in the town would be great for the atmosphere. And I find this percentage-solution a good idea to make it more believable - I'm actually really surprised that this simple but effective idea isn't used more in games. It definitively enhances immersion if there are not always the same characters standing at the same spots.
We will try to finish working on these soon. :) And you don't have to restart it now after the last update. I was talking about the circumstance before we corrected it. Now with the last update (Ver. 2020.01.18), your save file should work fine now. Otherwise, let us know and we will look into it ASAP!
Wonderful, thank you!
By now you should have already finished the game. We would love to hear your thoughts and if you have found any bugs to report (Know that we are here to fix any found bugs ASAP the moment we become aware of them). We also would like to invite you to review our game here in itch once you finish it. We hope you enjoyed it. We will keep improving it towards the bigger launch (What we did now was a "soft launch"), but the price won't be discounted as much as it was this time. We love our early bird players who supported our project during this soft launch phase!
If you should need to contact us in the future my project email is:
Alright game updated already. I will be thankful if you can do me a favor and let me know if it's working correctly now. The two most important cases to test are these: using an old save file (i.e. from before yesterday's update), 1) you open a save file inside the Bar, and then 2) you leave it (anywhere, just to the Town is enough) and come back to it.
Is the game finished? I'm following you and your game but never got any message about it. Now I see the price tag is added. Is it complete?
Thanks and have a fine day! :)
Great to hear from you! We are going to write a post about what we are up to within the coming three days. Here is what is happening nowadays:
1. We have started our marketing campaign! The game will be launched by the end of February--it is just around the corner!
2. Second (and this is a big one!), we have been optimizing our game. This optimization is the main reason why it took us more than anticipated (despite that the game is finished and playable already). It will be all the same amount of fun, but with less waiting time between the scenes. :)
So watch out for the update posts within three days from now. Thank you again for following us!
thank you for your reply! That sounds great, I'll stay tuned then. :)
Have a wonderful day!
edit: and I wanted to add that I'm glad you use the time to iron out performance issues and optimize the game. I had some performance problems when I tried the demo, so I really appreciate you don't rush the game out. I really respect when developers show that kind of responsibility and dedication to their game and the intended audience.
We appreciate hearing this from you. Totally agreed! The enhanced demo has just been uploaded. We will appreciate it a lot if you give it a try and let us know if you feel the difference. :)
Wow! Your game looks exactly like the style of game I'm craving for. It reminds me of the (sadly cancelled) exceptional AGS-game "Journey of Iesir". And, certainly, of MI 3 and Gilbert Goodmate. I really like the character design and the voice acting is very fitting. The only thing I missed was some more detail animations: For example in the tavern the two guys could move now and then. I'd also wish for more eye blinking (I really like it on the main character). These are tiny details, but after playing "Journey of Iesir" I like such details and as your game looks very high-class I just wanted to mention it as a suggestion. Anyway, I look forward to updates about development. And I'll most definitively purchase your game on release. Good luck! :)
Hi Athanasius. It was wonderful to read your comment. In case you did not see it, this game project is fully complete already. All we're doing is test for bugs and prepare the launch marketing campaign (busy doing this right now!).
Regarding adding more animations, we're considering it, but blinking in specific is already on our to-do list (to be done within a week from today only). The demo you tried is a bit old BTW. Within 48 hours from now, we will upload an updated version. It has many small improvements here and there but the highlights include shortened dialogues and making first room objectives easier and quicker to solve.
We will soon upload the updated demo version and post an update about it. Thanks again for dropping by! :)
Thank you for your reply @haridira! That's wonderful, I look forward to the updated demo! Godspeed with the full release! :)
The new demo version has been uploaded! Thank you for your interest. :)
Thank you for informing me, I'll download and try it asap! :)
Hey there! How are things going? I just wanted to say again how eagerly I anticipate your game and wish you godspeed!
Hi Athansius. So nice to hear from you again! The preparations for launching it (i.e. marketing work) are taking more than anticipated. I will very soon share with you the link to our renovated website. I will get back to you in less than a week from today. Again thank you for your support! It is comments from people like you that keep us and our project going. :)
Our Steam page has just been approved by Steam! Feel free to share with your friends! We're planning to launch the game by the end this year so a bit less than two months from today.
